31-year-old lives with parents, puts $70,000 into mobile MMORPG – Asmongold explains why it’s okay

Twitch streamer Asmongold is streaming a player who has pledged $70,000 to the mobile MMORPG Fate/Grand Order and appears to be obsessed with the game.

What does Asmongold do?

  • A 2:41 minute video from the Wall Street Journal is called “Meet the Man Who Invested $70,000 in a Mobile Game.” (via youtube)
  • The video is about 31-year-old Daigo, who lives with his parents, trades stocks and plays “Fate/Grand Order” every free minute of his life. Only when he is sleeping, driving or taking a bath is he not active in the game. According to the report, Fate/Grand Order is known for turning obsessive fans into gamblers.
  • Fate/Grand Order is a gacha game famous for its heavy reliance on microtransactions. It aggressively advertises that players are churning in real money.
  • Twitch streamer Asmongold etches: “Stop watching 3am streams if you don’t have money!”

“I personally know 2 people who are even worse”

What does Asmongold say to the man? The popular Twitch streamer initially wonders why the man isn’t playing while he’s taking a bath.

Then Asmongold states that the man obviously drives a nice car, lives a settled life and can take care of himself. So from Asmongold’s point of view everything is fine. Living with his parents is no shame for him either. This is common in many places:

That’s not really a problem if the guy wants to be a loser and spend all his money on one game. That shit is only bad when it affects people ruining other people’s lives.

Since the man’s parents don’t know how much money he’s putting into the game, it appears that the man is spending his own money and not his parents’ – so everything is fine.

In any case, Asmongold seems to have a lot of understanding for the man. He says he alone knows 2 streamers, Lacari and Tecotne, who have invested even more money into the gacha game Fate/Grand Order:

Isn’t that fucking ridiculous? I mean, we’re looking at an exposé from the Wall Street Journal about a mentally ill 31-year-old person. And I mean I personally know 2 people who are even worse.

At the end of the video, Asmongold explains: As long as the man spends his own money, everything is okay. There’s a lot worse:

I wouldn’t do what that guy does. But I mean – he doesn’t kill anyone. Thank goodness he’s not filming himself doing TikTok where he’s like, I’m going outside now and pooping on the street. Let’s see if anyone talks to me about it.

Asmongold then elaborates on what he actually finds more ridiculous. He knows people who go to clubs on the weekends and party and then throw out $1,000 over the weekend.

And even people who are financially not in a position to afford such luxurious weekends did that – and still did it all the time.

So as long as you don’t do TikTok and can afford what you do, you have the blessing of the biggest MMORPG streamer on Twitch. Asmongold shows no mercy for people who have no money:
