30th anniversary – that’s how important the Christmas market is to Eksjö

Since 1993, Eksjö has had its Christmas market, but in the winter of 2020 the market had to be canceled due to the corona pandemic. Once the market got going again, it was a record number of visitors.

– In 2021, we could start again, but with restrictions. In contrast, in 2022 we had a visitor record here with over 40,000 people, says Thomas Hanzén and believes that the market is extremely important for, among other things, the business world.

– If you think to yourself that you would have a store here and all of a sudden you have – 30 to 40,000 people who are a potential customer. It means a lot to restaurants and traders here.

Thinking about safety

– We always have high security at the Eksjö Christmas market. We always employ a security manager, train the staff in security thinking and block off all roads up to the square and the pedestrian street. So there is no risk that someone could drive in with a vehicle, says Thomas Hanzén.

In the clip, he tells, among other things, how the market has managed to exist for 30 years.
