According to Cinema Blend, 3,000 real Kalashnikovs, automatic assault rifles, were used in the film. The bizarre, incomprehensible reason director Andrew Niccol gave for it: It was cheaper and easier. And it gets even better:
When I made the film I needed guns in the Czech Republic and it was cheaper to use real guns. I bought 3000 Kalashnikovs and sold them again at a loss. I wouldn’t be a particularly good gun dealer.
So the austerity measure backfired.
When is Lord of War 2 in cinemas?
The film is scheduled to start shooting later this year. A start of Lord of War 2 therefore seems possible at the end of 2024. If you can’t wait any longer, mark May 25, 2023. The horror comedy Renfield with Cage as Dracula starts in German cinemas on that day.
