A hidden commentator has emerged in FIFA 23 as fans share videos from the game in which Ryan Reynolds can be heard on the mic. Choosing the right club is crucial.
FIFA 23 is now just over 3 months old, but a little Easter egg has just landed on players’ radars: Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney can provide in-game commentary when playing with AFC Wrexham.
Clips are currently being shared on YouTube in which Reynolds and McElhenney can be heard when Wrexham is on the pitch – for example against Liverpool FC, which is being pulled directly over:
The two describe the game as a special match, a big club challenges a very small club. “A giant club versus a tiny, improvised version of a football club,” comments Reynolds, to which McElhenney replies, “Of course we mean Liverpool.”
“Small club, small town,” it continues, and there is talk of a “dense community in Liverpool” that would hold the community-led club together – compared to the “massive” AFC Wrexham”. This is obviously meant as a joke.
After that, the actual commentators thank “Ryan and Rob” and take over again.
A similar message was also found when Wrexham plays Stockport County. The two joke that it’s still “bitter” that Stockport was promoted instead of Wrexham, so they should now be humiliated.
It is not yet known whether there are other such Easter Eggs. The comment can only be found with the English commentators.
What’s up with Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenny and AFC Wrexham?
The Welsh club AFC Wrexham is known as the “third oldest club in football history”, but as a fifth division team it only plays a minor role in sport. But in 2020 the club suddenly made headlines – because Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club.
Since then, the two have acted as “co-owners” of the club and thus repeatedly bring it into the public eye. There is also a documentary about the club and the purchase by Reynolds and McElhenney, and there are always humorous videos about the club.
The two reported back in 2021 when the club was included in FIFA 22 – in the “rest of the world”, which obviously irritated the two very much:
It’s not Reynolds’ first gaming appearance either: his character from the movie “Free Guy” made an appearance in Fortnite, including a small event. The film itself was also completely about the world of video games and was well received.
Hollywood in FIFA 23: In fact, Ryan Reynolds isn’t the first actor to appear in FIFA 23. His colleague Jason Sudeikis can also be found in the game in the form of his role “Ted Lasso”. This is the main character of the series of the same name, in which a completely overwhelmed football coach is supposed to take over a professional football team in England.
Not only Ted Lasso, but also the entire fictional club “AFC Richmond” is represented in FIFA 23 – including its players.
