3 million admissions but already exceeded by

It’s been a little over two weeks since Asterix & Obelix The Middle Kingdom was released in cinemas, just before the Zone A winter holidays, and the film now has more than 3 million admissions. A nice score for Pathé and Guillaume Canet, but which is still insufficient for the film to be profitable. According to the latest news, the film must exceed 6 million admissions in France to reach its break-even point. A score that it can obviously manage to achieve, since the winter holidays have just started for Zone C. Nevertheless, Guillaume Canet’s film encounters a few obstacles, starting with its word-of-mouth which is quite mixed with the public. If a certain fringe of the population manages to find its account (children under 12, conciliatory adults), the curious who wanted to form their own opinion after the murderous criticisms of the press validate the abyssal void of a production at 65 million euros.

The film also collapsed in the second week, with attendance down 44% compared to the first week. Worse, for 1 week, Asterix & Obelix The Middle Empire has been overtaken by another French comedy, Alibi.com 2 from Philippe Lacheau’s band, which has conversely very positive word-of-mouth and which managed to cross the million entries in a few days, without the budget or the media presence of Asterix & Obelix. We will therefore be very vigilant over the next few weeks and see if Pathé and Guillaume Canet will manage to take their revenge against a press that has given him no gift.
