3 hidden features of your iPhone you should start using

1. Screen distance

In Apple’s latest update – iOS 17 – came a new function that aims to prevent your eyes from getting too close to the mobile screen.

When the feature is enabled, a notification may appear that interrupts your current activity because you have your face too close to the screen.

It can be useful for reducing the eye strain that often comes with iPhone use.

To enable Screen Distance:

  • Navigate to Settings –> Screen Time –> Screen Distance.
  • Turn on the feature.

    2. Screenshot the entire page

Another relatively new feature that few know about is that you can screenshot an entire website at the same time.

So you no longer need to take multiple screenshots if you want to save a page that doesn’t fit on the mobile screen.

    To screenshot the entire page:

  • Screenshot as usual. You do this either – depending on whether you have an iPhone with FaceID or a home button – by quickly pressing and releasing the side button and the volume up button at the same time, or by quickly pressing the side button and the home button at the same time.
  • Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears in the lower left corner of the screen.
  • Tap Full Page and then Done. Then you can either save the screenshot in your images or as a PDF in your files.

    3. Standby

The third feature is called Standby and can be used to turn your iPhone into a bedside clock, photo frame and more when you’re not actively using it.

Standby was introduced in iOS 17 and can be used on all iPhone models that have the update installed.

    How to use Standby:

  • Navigate to Settings –> Standby and turn the feature on if it isn’t already.
  • Turn your iPhone on its side, set it down and plug in a charger.
  • Press the side button.
  • Now you can swipe right or left to switch between different clocks, images and widgets. You can also swipe up and down to see different looks for a particular view.
