At the beginning of the year, Michael Herbig announced that he was working on a sequel to his biggest box office hit to date: Der Schuh des Manitu. In 2001, the western comedy, which revolves around the Winnetou story by Karl May, almost 12 million people in Germany went to the cinema. Part 2 will be released next year.
The Canoe of Manitu is the title of the late sequel, which takes us back to the dusty world of the Wild West and features the return of at least two big names from the popular Bully universe. Both Christian Tramitz and Rick Kavanian are on hand when the Canoe of Manitu sets sail.

Thanks to a press release from the FFA (German Federal Film Board) announcing the shooting of Der Schuh des Manitu 2 supported with 675,000 eurosthe first synopsis has been revealed. Don’t worry: There are no spoilers here. Instead, we get a rough idea of the direction in which the story of The Canoe of Manitu is going:
A gang lures Abahachi and Ranger into a trap in order to get hold of the legendary canoe of Manitou. The two end up in the Blood brothers on the gallowsAt the last second they are saved by their loyal companion, the lovable Dimitri. But as it turns out, it was all part of a big plan and just the beginning!

After the shoe, the search for Manitou’s canoe begins. Abahachi and ranger are apparently still traveling together and experiencing dangerous adventures. The plot summary also confirms that between the gallows and the treasure hunt, the third major character from the original also returns: Dimitri.
But there is still no trace of a brilliant character: Santa Maria. Without the villain played by Sky du Mont, The Shoe of Manitu would only be half as good. Could he be the head of the evil gang that lures Abahachi and Ranger into a trap? Hope for Santa Maria’s return is not lost yet.
When will The Canoe of Manitu be released in cinemas?
Constantin Film brings The Canoe of Manitu sometime in 2025 to the cinema. An exact release date is not yet known. The film has to be shot first before post-production begins. Perhaps we will get a first promo picture when filming starts, showing Bully’s team back in action.
