Donald Trump has appointed 27-year-old Karoline Leavitt as his press secretary in the White House when he takes office as president in January.

She will be the youngest in the post so far.

Karoline Leavitt has held the corresponding post for Trump during the election campaign and now holds it during the preparations for the entry into the White House.

“Karoline is smart, tough and has shown that she is a very effective communicator,” Trump commented on the appointment.

He says he is confident that Leavitt will excel at the podium in the White House press room. The job usually includes holding daily press briefings.

Leavitt will be the youngest in the post so far, two years younger than Richard Nixon’s press secretary Ronald Ziegler in 1969. She is no stranger to the inner workings of the White House, having worked in the press office during Trump’s first term.

During his first four years as president, Trump employed four press secretaries but often acted as his own spokesperson, not least through countless posts on social media.
