The Swedish 26-year-old has worked with a healthcare group in a unit called Hospitallers. Right now he was working north of Bachmut. During an ongoing evacuation of a casualty, they were in a collision with a combat vehicle. He was thrown from the car and later died in hospital.
– We can confirm that a Swedish man in his twenties, who is a native of southern Sweden, has died in Ukraine, Hedda Eriksson press communicator, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is unclear how the accident happened in the dark. It is the second known Swedish death in Ukraine during the war.
Fierce battles and heavy artillery shelling are taking place around Bachmut. The 26-year-old’s job was to protect the medical transport and the staff on board. He had recently returned to Ukraine after also being there for a longer time last spring.
