Emily “Emiru” Schunk (26) is nominated in two categories of the Streamer Awards, an event for content creators on Twitch. But she is not enthusiastic about the nomination and even wants to boycott the event.
What kind of streamer is this? Emily “Emiru” Schunk began her career playing League of Legends and cosplaying. She is now a Variety streamer who belongs to OTK, Asmongold’s gaming organization: The 26-year-old often makes her male colleagues there look quite old with her cool demeanor, especially Mizkif (via YouTube(.
Emiru was already one of the biggest streamers on Twitch, which was further solidified by the departure of previous greats like Pokimane and Amouranth. The analysis site Streams Charts lists her as the streamer with the most viewers on average for the last 30 days.
The 26-year-old probably owes this success to two nominations at the Streamer Awards, a big event hosted by Twitch streamer QTCinderella. Emiru is in the “Streamer of the Year” and “Just Chatting” categories, but she can’t be happy.
In Germany these streamers would probably have been nominated:
Streamer suggests that there is more to the nomination
Where is the problem? In a stream, Emiru complained that she was not nominated in the “Sapphire” category for women and marginalized genders. Instead, she was included as a “quota woman” in two other major categories.
She believes: She was not nominated in the category in which she could win. To do this, she competes as a quota woman against men in two other categories, only to lose there.
The Twitch streamer finds this “a bit strange.” She suggests that there is probably a reason for this decision before announcing that she does not want to go to the event. She seems visibly touched. You can look at the situation here:
What could be behind it? At the Streamer Awards there are repeated accusations that it is an event for QTCinderella and her circle of friends. Streamers outside of this “bubble” would be disadvantaged. This is a similar discussion to the one that took place in this country about the German equivalent of the Twitch streamer Reved.
Now it is apparently believed that Emiru’s nomination in these categories was a strategic calculation to ensure that she does not win an award.
On Reddit, users are still pointing out that Emiru has already received heavy criticism for her nomination on X. If she actually wins against the male streamers, she will probably have to worry about having to listen to even more insults that she only won because she is a woman.
In 2024, a woman won the “Streamer of the Year” vote at the Esports Awards. However, this aroused critics who believed that the streamer had received preferential treatment because of her gender: 26-year-old beats 9 men in the election for streamer of the year – Asmongold complains: “Only because she is a woman”
Even before Emiru’s announcement that she didn’t want to go to the Stream Awards, QTCinderella had commented on the criticism of her event: 30-year-old leads important awards ceremony on Twitch and everyone complains about her – now she speaks plainly
