26-year-old flames so hard on Twitch that he ruined his professional career

In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (Steam), a veteran professional from Argentina played through a Brazilian platform, GamersClub. The CS:GO professional repeatedly made disparaging remarks about Brazilians. A clip of his comments went viral. This has negative consequences for him.

Who is the player?

  • Nicolás “NikoM” Miozzi (26) plays Rifler in CSO:GO.
  • He’s been a pro since 2015 and has earned just over $18,000 in total in prize money, so he’s not a very successful pro. He had his greatest successes in tournaments in the “C-Tier” category.
  • Because the e-sports scene in South America revolves around Brazil and actually all South Americans want to play in Brazil, the Argentine often played for Brazilian teams, most recently for River Plate.

This is what he did: The Argentine likes to play on “Gamers Club”, where he was even voted “Foreigner of the Year” in 2017. Gamers Club is a Brazilian app that brings people together to play there. The aim is to promote e-sports in Brazil.

However, videos have now been circulating showing NikoM making xenophobic comments towards a Brazilian player while broadcasting himself live on Twitch. He said things like (via dotesports) to one player:

  • “dirty brazilian”
  • “Fucking Brazilians”
  • “Brazilian with Cancer”
  • “poor brazilian”
  • The player “ratted on” NikoM to the GamersClub platform and asked if they think it’s good that a guy with 1,000 viewers can spread racism and xenophobia:

    Insulting tweet goes viral

What happened? A clip of these insults was viewed more than 900,000 times and caused an uproar in the Brazilian community.

    People demanded his head:

  • You have no tolerance for something like that, the ban hammer has to be swung.
  • Another said he does it all the time, he only spreads hatred, racism and xenophobia.
  • How did that turn out? GamersClub banned the player for 5 years. In addition, there was the clarification that one does not share such an attitude. He was also removed from a list of all pros in CS:GO by Faceit, which caused some cheers in Portuguese.

It is also hard to imagine that the man will appear again for a professional team. Your career is probably over then.

Racist remarks are always wrong and should be condemned. But expressing xenophobia against the inhabitants of the country on which one depends for one’s livelihood live on stream is a particularly bad idea.

It’s amazing how careless some people are with their careers and reputations:
