At least 26 members of Nigeria’s security forces have been killed and eight wounded in an ambush by gunmen in central Nigeria late Sunday, two military sources told AFP.
An Air Force spokesman said a helicopter sent to evacuate the wounded crashed in the same area on Monday, without saying whether the crew or passengers had survived.
Another military officer states that the helicopter had eleven dead and seven injured on board when it crashed.
Northwest and central Nigeria have for years been plagued by conflict in the form of gangs raiding remote villages, killing and robbing residents and burning down their homes.
