L’Iraq and the Türkiye are committed to collaborating at all levels. Major progress for Baghdad: the signing of a framework agreement on water management. With this ten-year agreement, the two countries commit to a more equitable distribution of the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates, until now controlled by Turkey, and to work together to modernize infrastructure to confront climate change. .
Another success, on the Iraqi side: a memorandum of understanding was signed with Turkey, the Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to finalize the road to development. This rail and road project linking the Arab-Persian Gulf to Turkey should help develop the Iraqi economy and the industrial sector.
On the security issue, the agreement is more vague. The Turkish president, who is threatening a ground offensive against the PKK in northern Iraq, says that discussions are underway to define the measures that will be taken jointly against the armed group considered terrorist by Ankara. Without specifying how, Baghdad has in turn committed to regaining control of the areas where the armed group is located.
