The 22-year-old suspect was armed with a rifle when he was arrested shortly after the shooting and has been held in custody since then. Because of his mental illness, he is placed in a psychiatric ward instead of in custody.
Today’s re-arrest hearing in the Copenhagen district court was the first time that the public and journalists got an insight into the police investigation – previous hearings in the case have been held behind closed doors.
However, journalists were forbidden by the judge to report directly from the hearing and are also not allowed to spread information about the 22-year-old’s health afterwards.
In the man’s home, the police have found information that shows that the act was planned, including texts on how to aim for the torso and head and look out for people who are hiding.
Prior to the shooting, the suspect had also purchased the vest he was wearing when he was arrested.
Two 17-year-olds were killed in the shooting, a boy and a girl, as well as a 47-year-old man. Another seven people were hit by gunfire, but survived.
