2,500 people living in Wroclaw, Poland, were evacuated due to an unexploded bomb from the Second World War.
According to reports in the Polish media, the 250-kilogram bomb was found in Wroclaw in the southwestern part of the country during construction work.
Polish armed forces announced that the bomb was a German SC 250 from the war.
While bomb disposal experts were working at the scene, the evacuated city residents were taken to safe areas by buses. In addition, train services were also stopped until the bomb was removed, due to the proximity of the area to the railways.
News sites broadcasting from Wroclaw reported that life in the city began to return to normal.
During the Second World War, Wroclaw was the German city of Breslau. The city had been under heavy Soviet bombardment before Germany’s surrender, and had been the scene of fierce fighting and widespread destruction.
When the borders were redrawn after the war, the city became part of Poland, and Germany, who lost the war, gave up its territory there.
