25 years of banned sci fi horror classic with lots of
A few years before director David Cronenberg had his breakthrough with Scanners, Videodrome or Die Fliege, the body horror and sci-fi doyen created his first commercial film, Parasiten-Mörder (“Shivers”) just as disgusting as it is sexually charged comes along.

The classic was indexed in an uncut version from 1982 to 2007 and has now been released in a new Mediabook version at the end of August for the first time in 4K on Blu-ray. The different cover designs Edition A *, Edition B *, Edition D * and Edition E * Some of them are already out of stock on Amazon, so it’s worth being quick.

That’s what Parasite Killer is about

A scientist is on the hunt for a parasite that will make organ transplants unnecessary and revive the human primal instinct. However, an experiment on a young woman spirals out of control and the parasite transforms its host into one bloodthirsty and human flesh eating sex beast.

Having intercourse with numerous men, who in turn become sex-obsessed, murderous beasts, the parasite proliferates in the claustrophobic seclusion of a Montreal apartment complex, becoming an increasing threat to humanity.

As bonus material the media books include two synchronized versions, audio commentaries, a featurette with film scholar Marcus Stiglegger, an interview with David Cronenberg and a 24-page booklet with a text by film critic Manfred Riepe. You can find more details on Amazon *.

Is Parasite Killer worth it?

According to the colleagues at FILMSTARTS, the parasite killer has hardly lost his horror despite his age: “Slimy, bloody, disgusting – even if sex plays a major role here, ‘Shivers’ should probably turn on at least the viewers. From the FSK -16 release, don’t be fooled: In our opinion, Cronenberg’s first hit, which was actually one of the highest-grossing Canadian films ever, is not for the faint of heart.”

It’s not for nothing that Parasite Killer is on our list of the most disturbing films of all time. The film also received a solid rating of 6.3 points in the Moviepilot community. Horror and Cronenberg fans shouldn’t miss out on the new 4K release in the chic media books.
