The United Nations Food Program (WFP) warns that more than 25 million people in Sudan will soon suffer from acute hunger. The UN agency is appealing for more contributions from member countries.

– The Sudan crisis is almost completely forgotten right now. There are so many crises going on in the world that people can’t take in more, says WFP director Cindy McCain to AP.

Right now, it is difficult to get around in large parts of Sudan due to flooding. The UN reports that it takes longer than usual to reach, for example, the Zamzam refugee camp, with more than 400,000 people.

– It has taken our convoys almost two weeks to arrive. Bridges and roads have been washed away. It is about a combination of several tragic factors, says Cindy McCain.

10 million people have been displaced in Sudan by the civil war: a power struggle between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
