Seven people, including an entire family of four, including a 23-day-old baby, were killed in Russian attacks on Kherson Oblast on Sunday morning, reports The Guardian.
At the end of the year, Russian troops withdrew from the city of Kherson, located in southern Ukraine, after Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed to have annexed the city last September.
But the attacks in the area have continued. On Sunday, artillery fire was directed at a Ukrainian village in Shiroka Balka in Kherson Oblast.
Seven killed
The artillery shelling killed a man, his wife and their 23-day-old daughter. Their 12-year-old son was taken to hospital for treatment, but later died from his injuries. Another person in the village was also killed.
Two men in the neighboring village of Stanislav are also reported dead in connection with the shelling, which means that seven people lost their lives in the attacks.
Several injured
In addition to the dead, 20 people were injured in the attack in Kherson. Local officials have declared Monday a day of mourning, writes Reuters.
“Terrorists will never stop killing civilians voluntarily. Terrorists must be stopped. By force they understand nothing else,” wrote the Home Office in England on Telegram, The Guardian reports.
Kiev retook part of Kherson from Russian occupation last November, but Kremlin troops have continued to shell the regional capital and the areas around it from across the Dnipro River.
