The World Wide Fund for Nature has released a list of 224 new species discovered in Southeast Asia.

The list also includes a ‘ghost monkey’ with white circles around its eyes, frogs, salamanders and a bamboo species.

Many living species that have not yet been discovered in the region are in danger of extinction before they are discovered.

“These are extraordinary and beautiful results of millions of years of evolution,” K. Yognand, head of WWF’s wildlife and wildlife crime unit in the region, told Reuters.

Officials said the species is “intensely threatened”.

Species living in regions with rich biodiversity such as Southeast Asia face threats such as habitat destruction, human-spread diseases and the illegal pet trade, according to WWF.
