On Sunday, T1 became world champions in League of Legends. But one person can’t really be happy about it: the team’s brilliant supporter, Ryu “Keria” Min-seok, is a bit disappointed because he isn’t allowed to choose his favorite heroine for a special skin in LoL.
This is the situation:
Keria might have played Lux in match 4, but the final was over after 3 matches
This annoys Keria: Supporter Keria is considered one of the greatest talents League of Legends has ever seen. But his runs at LoL Worlds always ended with him facing his personal final opponent, BeryL, who knocked him and his respective team out of the tournament. This is what happened to Keria in 2020, 2021 and 2022, BeryL was always the final opponent that he simply couldn’t overcome.
But in 2023 there was no BeryL to be seen anywhere, so Keria could also become world champion.
Of course, damn BeryL got his way when he became world champion:
After the tournament, Keria now has $445,000 more, but his dream is shattered because he wanted the heroine Lux as his own skin. Because she is simply lovable and spreads light and joy wherever she goes – well, actually Lux prefers to blast her opponents with powerful laser beams, but somehow in LoL that counts as spreading light.
As his botlane partner Gumayusi explains: “Keria originally liked Thresh and Lux the best, and it seemed like he really wanted a skin for Lux. If we had still gotten to the blue side, we might have gone for the combo.” Caitlyn/Lux” decided, but we had the red side 3 times in a row and won the game 3-0.”
Because the sides in LoL are not completely symmetrical, but differ from each other in details. Therefore, teams develop strategies and favor heroes for one side. In addition, special rules apply to the botlane, where supporters and ADC must necessarily match.
So Keria might have played Lux in Game 4, but because the LoL Worlds final against Weibo Gaming ended so early, Keria didn’t get to play Lux anymore.
“They said they can make Bard pretty too. I just frowned”
This is what Keria says herself: As PC Gamer writes, Keria said somewhat disappointedly:
“So, I was just thinking about making a Lux skin. I never thought about another hero. So when I went to the meeting at Riot, I spent most of the time talking about Lux. I asked them to make Lux pretty and they told me they could make Bard pretty too. I just frowned.”
Bard, with whom Keria shone in the finale, is pretty much the opposite of Lux: a stocky, tall guy who looks a bit like a balloon.
The fact that Riot Games doesn’t grant the supporter his favorite heroine, but instead imposes Bard on him, seems to throw the young man off track a bit.
In any case, some players on reddit feel sorry for Keria. Riot should just turn a blind eye and give the man his lux.
But others have a simple tip for him: “Just become world champion again.” Let’s see where BeryL plays in 2024.
