He spent the end-of-year holidays in captivity. It’s been 21 months, this Sunday, that Olivier Dubois has been held hostage in the confines of northern Mali. Pending happy news, RFI opens its antenna every month on the 8th of the month to the family of Olivier Dubois, who confirmed in the last video broadcast by his kidnappers, last March, that he could hear these messages from comfort where he was.
The French journalist, who works notably for Release, Young Africa and Point, was kidnapped on April 8, 2021 while on assignment in Gao, northern Mali. Since then, Olivier Dubois has been held captive by the Jnim, the Support Group for Islam and Muslims led by Iyad Ag Ghaly and linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. The Malian transitional authorities and the French authorities claim to be working for his release. Like every 8th of the month on RFI, his relatives send him messages of support:
