21 abbreviations young people use today how many do

The Swedish language is constantly developing and getting new words all the time, while some words are forgotten and stop being used. Today, for example, it is rare to hear someone say the words pantaloons, politess and pigtails.

Every year Språktidningen and the Language Council make a list of the year’s new words that have qualified for the Swedish language, while many other words are removed as they have simply become obsolete and are no longer used. The thinning is not based on opinion but on frequency, writes The language newspaper.
