2025 will be the year of great upheavals in the French audiovisual landscape. In a few days, two popular TV channels will disappear from TNT. And others will follow, with a change in the numbering.

Digital terrestrial television – better known by the acronym Tnt – will experience a great change this year! While certain dissemination authorizations expired in 2025, the authority for regulating audiovisual and digital communication – the famous Arch – completely rebatted the cards in late 2024 by deciding, after study and debates, to exclude channels TV and welcome new ones.

The most important, and the most publicized change concerns C8 and NRJ12, which have lost their authorizations for various reasons and which are thus excluded from TNT. A decision qualified as unfair by these two popular channels as by their viewers. Their respective owners have multiplied the appeals to protest. In a last attempt to maintain, the Canal+ group (C8) and the NRJ group (NJR 12) even seized the Council of State “For excess of power” from the Arcom. The highest jurisdictional authority finally returned his verdict on February 19 and validated the ouster of the two channels.

Concretely, C8 and NRJ12 will stop their broadcast on TNT on March 1 at midnight, probably after a great farewell evening. There will be no black screen on the released channels, but a message explaining the rest of the events. And in particular the upcoming arrival of the new channels which will replace them, to which the Arcom granted authorizations during its great reshuffle.

The first, T18, is proposed by the CMI France group, which belongs to the Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky. It will broadcast documentaries, debates and entertainment, and will start on June 6. The second, of TV, is the chain of the Ouest-France press group, will only arrive on September 1. It will offer a daily talk show, entertainment, information, fiction and possible debate evenings.

But that’s not all! Because following the exclusion of C8, the Canal+ group decided to withdraw four of its paid TNT channels: Canal+, Canal+ Cinema, Canal+ Sport and Planet. A decision that will release frequencies, probably for free channels. And if not all have been attributed, the Arcom took the opportunity to completely review the numbering of TNT channels by reaffecting channels. A decision which still aroused reactions of dissatisfaction, in particular BFMTV. Here is the future numbering which effects from June 6, 2025.

Note, for those who would be sad to see their favorite channels leave, that C8 and NRJ12 do not necessarily disappear. Like hundreds of other channels, they will be able to develop agreements with operators for broadcasting on internet boxes or cable or satellite. In addition, the Council of State asks the Arcom to study the possibility of a new call for applications for four frequencies which will be vacant from June, appeal to which C8 and NRJ12 will therefore be able to apply.

As for Cyril Hanouna, the star (and controversial) host of C8 and his flagship program Touche not at my postafter many negotiations, they should find refuge on another TNT channel, probably within the Canal+ group (on CSTAR). Answer in a few days!
