porscheofficially introduced the highly anticipated 2024 Porsche Macan EV, which marks a significant leap in the electric vehicle market. After a series of delays attributed to Volkswagen’s software issues, the second generation of the Macan is poised to redefine the electric SUV landscape with the latest technology and performance improvements.
Two formidable models lead the range: the Macan 4 with a 408-horsepower twin-motor powertrain, priced at €78,700, and the powerful Macan Turbo, priced at €99,700 with an impressive 639 horsepower. While the Macan 4 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, the Macan Turbo achieves this feat in just 3.3 seconds, thanks to its incredible torque of 1,129 Nm.
Both models share a common 100 kWh battery pack that offers 95 kWh of usable capacity. With continuously excited motors, a stylish Cd of 0.25, regenerative braking capable of regenerating up to 240 kW and intelligent software, the Macan achieves an impressive driving range. The Macan 4 promises a range of up to 613 km on the WLTP combined cycle, while the Macan Turbo promises a range of up to 591 km. Urban driving increases these figures to 784 km for the base model and 765 km for the Turbo.
Built on the new 800V Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, the Macan initially faces difficulties finding 800V-capable chargers. However, if successful, it will be able to charge up to 270 kW and offer a rapid 10-80% charging time of 21 minutes under optimum conditions. A unique feature allows the Macan to use 400V DC chargers by splitting the battery pack into two 400V parts, each with a charging capacity of 135 kW. Home charging is supported up to 11 kW.
Visually, the Macan stands out with its Porsche-specific design, with its low bonnet, prominent wings and distinctive DRL set. The vehicle sits slightly longer and lower than the previous model, and optional 22″ wheels complete the aesthetic. Inside, the SUV experience is transformed with a low driving position and a wide, low dashboard reminiscent of the Taycan. The triple screen, consisting of a 12.9″ instrument panel and two 10.9″ infotainment screens, enriches the futuristic interior, complete with an 87″ HUD and an illuminating LED light strip running along the instrument panel and doors.
Powered by Google’s Android Automotive platform, the Macan’s infotainment system is voice-activated, streamlines a variety of functions, and supports third-party app installations. Porsche has not compromised on the driving experience by combining features such as full air suspension, PASM electronic damping, optional rear axle steering and enhanced shock absorbers for improved handling.
Despite its performance muscle, the Macan stays true to its SUV roots, offering a significant 540 liters of cargo space (expandable to 1,348 liters with the seats down), an 84-litre boot and a solid 2,000kg towing capacity.
As a result, the 2024 Porsche Macan EV emerges as a premium, no-compromise electric SUV that blends speed, capability and practicality. The new Macan, which has reached a sales figure of 800,000 units in the last decade, is preparing to find a suitable audience in the developing electric vehicle market.
