2024 Olympics UN adopts Olympic truce despite opposition from Russia

The Olympic truce is a tradition that dates back to Ancient Greece in the 9th century BC and which has been brought up to date for the modern Olympic Games since those of Lillehammer in 1994: the member countries of the UN undertake to cease hostilities one week before the start of the Olympic Games and up to seven days after the end of the Paralympics.
