2024 Olympics New sports and new events for the Paris

Several new disciplines will take place during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In total, eight new events will take place during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. These events are not added together; they replace eight other events to allow for better diversity.

  • A new mixed event in Athletics (to replace the 50 km walk)
  • A new weight category for women in Boxing (to replace a weight category in men)
  • Two new Extreme Slalom events in Canoe (to replace two Canoe Racing events)
  • Three new mixed events in Veilincluding Mixed Kitesurfing and Mixed “470” (to replace the men’s and women’s “470” events, and the men’s “Finn”); the third event could be Mixed Ocean Racing (its introduction to the programme is subject to further studies on costs, safety and security of athletes, the conclusions of which will be communicated on 31 May).
  • A new mixed team “Skeet” event in Shot (to replace the mixed team “Trap” event)

But beyond the events, four new sports are added to the 41 already present: athletics, rowing, badminton, basketball, basketball 3×3, boxing, canoe sprint, canoe-kayak slalom, track cycling, road cycling, BMX freestyle, BMX racing, mountain bike (MTB), fencing, football, golf, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, weightlifting, handball, hockey, judo, wrestling, modern pentathlon, rugby, swimming, artistic swimming, marathon swimming, diving, water polo, equestrian sports, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, shooting, archery, triathlon, sailing, volleyball, beach volleyball. These are:

  • Break dance
  • Sport climbing
  • Surf
  • Skateboard
