2024 Olympic Games medal table what ranking for France

Find the complete medal table for these Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a live update.

France, the host country of these Olympic Games, has ambition. The goal is simple, a top 5 in the world medal table. According to the latest simulations from the Gracenote institute, France could even end up in 3rd place in the ranking with 56 medals with 29 projected Olympic titles. The new simulations from the end of June took into account the results of the national and international championships that have taken place since. France would therefore be third behind the United States (123 medals including 37 gold) and China (87 medals including 36 gold). Great Britain would also have a better total than France according to these predictions, but with fewer titles (62 medals including 14 gold). If this ranking is achieved, it would simply be the best total in the country’s history with one more gold medal than at the 1900 Olympics. During the last three editions of the competition, France brought back 33 medals from Tokyo, 42 from Rio de Janeiro, and 35 from London.

The Olympic Games winners, country by country

Check out the Olympic Games medal list below, country by country, since the Athens Games in 1896, with all the gold, silver and bronze medals won by each nation!

The gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded respectively to the first, second and third place finishers in each event. Some combat sports (boxing, taekwondo, wrestling) are exceptions, also giving a bronze medal to the athlete who came in fourth place. While the silver medal is composed solely of the famous metal, this is not the case for bronze and gold. Indeed, the bronze medal is actually made of red brass, i.e. 65% copper and 5% zinc. The gold medal has only been made of solid gold once, at the Saint-Louis Games in 1904. Since then, vermeil, a silver alloy covered with gold leaf, has been used for economic reasons.

As for the cash rewards, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not provide a monetary bonus for the winners. It is therefore up to each national Olympic committee to reward the athletes as it sees fit. In France, the gold medal will bring in 80,000 euros, the silver medal 40,000 euros and the bronze medal 20,000 euros.
