This year, 858,409 candidates are registered for the brevet, in metropolitan France and in the overseas departments and regions. A number slightly down compared to last year.

08:32 – How to get your copies back after the brevet results?

To obtain copies of the patent, it is possible to request them directly from your examination center, which must respond to you within one month. Please note that this request must be made by a legal representative if the candidate is a minor. It is also possible to collect them from theCyclades space.

08:31 – Why don’t the results of the 2024 brevet all come out on the same day?

The Ministry of National Education leaves it up to each academy to publish the results of the brevet. Unlike the results of the baccalaureate, which are all published on the same day, those of the brevet vary according to the decision of each academy but within a certain time frame. This year, all the results are published between July 10 and 12. In addition, they arrive later because the brevet exams were organized on July 1 and 2, the correctors of each academy only had about ten days to correct several million copies.

08:31 – Which academies are publishing the brevet results today?

After the publication of the results in the Toulouse academy at 10am, the next one to publish them is that of Orléans-Tours scheduled for noon. At 2pm it is the Nancy-Metz academy that plans to put them online, and at 4pm that of Limoges. The last results of the day will be published at 5pm by the Amiens academy and at 6pm by those of Rennes and Strasbourg.

08:25 – At what time will the first results of the 2024 brevet be released?

The first academy to publish the brevet results today is that of Toulouse. On its website, it announced that the results would be online from 10am. To find them, simply go to theCyclade space.

07:44 – The merit scholarship for the brevet

Did you know that it was possible to earn money by getting a distinction in the brevet? Well, that’s the case, the brevet merit scholarship is a quarterly grant paid to scholarship high school students who have obtained a good or very good distinction in the brevet. It is automatically awarded to the students concerned but it can be withdrawn during high school if the high school student’s results and attendance are deemed unsatisfactory. Depending on the high school student’s level, he or she can receive between 402 and 1002 euros per year.

07:12 – The professional series patent

The professional series of the brevet concerns candidates enrolled in a third-year class “with special needs” such as in Prépa Métiers or in SEGPA but it can also concern students or apprentices in the professional stream who have already failed the general brevet. A third-year general student can request to take the brevet in the professional series but their request must be the subject of an academic committee.

06:44 – Oral exams for the brevet

In addition to the written tests, candidates must take an oral test, either individually or collectively. It is worth a maximum of 100 points and “relates to a project carried out in the history of the arts or as part of an EPI [enseignement pratique interdisciplinaire, comme l’histoire de l’art ou l’éducation aux médias et à l’information]or one of the educational paths: it allows in particular to evaluate the quality of oral expression”, explains the Ministry of National Education.

06:19 – The brevet award ceremony

At the end of the transition to middle school and obtaining the brevet diploma, “a republican ceremony for awarding brevet diplomas is organized at the start of each school year for the winners in their middle school”, indicates the Ministry of National Education. This ceremony “brings together the educational community and elected officials around the students who are completing their common school career” and “allows us to express the essential role of the school in the Republic and to congratulate the students who have obtained their first diploma”, adds the ministry.

05:58 – Written tests for the brevet

In addition to the common core on which students are assessed during the year, the brevet is assessed during four written tests, which take place over two days. A French test which includes an essay and grammar and linguistics questions, this is the first and longest of the tests. Then comes the mathematics test, the history-geography and moral and civic education test, and the science test which covers physics-chemistry, SVT and technology.

05:27 – Which mention for which result in the brevet?

As in the baccalaureate, distinctions are awarded based on the number of points collected in the brevet. To obtain the brevet, you must have collected a minimum of 400 points, i.e. 10/20, but if a candidate ends up with a number of points between 480 and 559 points, they are awarded the distinction “Assez bien”. The distinction “Bien” is obtained from 560 points while the distinction “Very good” concerns all candidates who have obtained 640 points or more.

05:03 – Depending on your results in the brevet, can you take resits?

The answer is unfortunately no, there are no resit exams for the national brevet diploma. This does not mean, however, that without the brevet candidates necessarily repeat the year. It is possible to repeat the third year in order to retake the brevet the following year, but it is entirely possible to move on to the second year without this diploma.

04:57 – Options for the patent?

Several optional courses exist in middle school and can bring a bonus of 10 or 20 points depending on the level acquired by the candidates at the end of the cycle and with regard to the learning objectives of this course. This is for example the case of Latin and Greek courses or regional or foreign languages.

04:53 – Where can I find out the results of the patent?

While candidates will be able to go to their examination center to find out their 2024 brevet results, their relatives will have to wait until the candidate’s home academy publishes their results online. The date and time of these publications vary depending on the academy, but the results should be online no later than July 12.

04:49 – Understanding your transcript

The brevet assessment consists of two sequences, the continuous assessment or “common base” and the final exams which take place at the beginning of July. Each of these two sequences is worth a maximum of 400 points, or 800 points in total. For a candidate to obtain their brevet, they must have at least half of these 800 points, i.e. 10/20.

Patent results by academy

The brevet is graded out of 800 points in total, combining continuous assessment and end-of-year exams. You need at least the average to obtain the diploma, i.e. a minimum of 400 points.

Continuous monitoring is taken into account in the grading, including projects carried out in class, like the EPI (Interdisciplinary Practical Teaching). The assessment of the common core is done on eight skills, each assessed in the school report through four levels of points:

  • 10 points for “insufficient” mastery
  • 25 points for a “fragile” mastery
  • 40 points for a “satisfactory” job
  • 50 points for a “very good” mastery

If the student manages to accumulate 50 points everywhere, he has reached the maximum possible for the continuous assessment part of the brevet, i.e. 400 points. Thus, he already obtains half of the points. You can consult the details of the skills of the common core on the website of the Ministry of Education.

The final tests of the brevet des collèges therefore represent the other half of the total scale of the brevet each year, marked out of 400 points. There are four written tests: French and maths are marked out of 100 while history-geography and science are assessed out of 50. An oral marked out of 100 completes the exam. The latter consists of a 15-minute presentation divided into two parts: 5 minutes of presentation of a project worked on during the year and 10 minutes of interview with the jury. The project presented was worked on during the interdisciplinary practical lessons or the third-year internship in a company.

The three mentions of the college diploma correspond to different levels of points obtained beyond the average of 400 points out of 800:

  • Mention quite good : more than 480 points
  • Mention GOOD : more than 560 points
  • Mention Alright : more than 640 points

There are also “regional language”, “college series, international option” and “Franco-German option” options.
