From what income am I likely to pay taxes?
The amount of income tax payable is set according to a scale. This year again, it was increased by 4.8% compared to last year. While many households do not pay taxes thanks to tax reduction schemes, some are de facto exempt from paying due to their (very) low income. Thus, people earning less than €11,294 per year are sure of not having to pay anything to the tax authorities.
What are the deadlines for declaring your income?

How many French people file their income tax returns each year?
According to public data from the DGFiP, around 40 million households declare their income each year. A number which has gradually increased over the years since in 2012, 36,700,000 people had completed a declaration, compared to 40,200,000 in 2021. These are the latest official figures known.
Who must file their tax return online?
Absolutely all French people. Since 2019, it has been compulsory to declare your income on the impots.gouv.fr website. However, exemptions exist in two cases: that their main residence is not equipped with the internet or that the taxpayer is not able to make their declaration online. Thus, it is still possible, especially for older people, to complete the declaration in paper format.
