A bank transfer arrives in a few days: 200 euros on average for 56 million French people.
This is good news which will automatically arrive in the bank accounts of many French people. While a small part of the population will soon receive the traditional Christmas bonus, it is another payment which is about to inflate household budgets during this end-of-year period. And it is not the State which will carry it out.
In a few days, 80% of the population will receive money directly from their bank, whatever it may be. On average, the amount will be around 212 euros. It may therefore be higher or lower depending on the customers. An end-of-year boost that is always welcome, especially during the festive season.
This transfer is not exceptional. But although eagerly awaited, some sometimes don’t even realize that the money has arrived. And for good reason. The payment is not made into the current account but into the savings account most used by the French: the A savings account. At the end of December, the traditional interest generated is paid to all holders of this investment secure financial.
According to data from the Bank of France, customers who hold a Livret A have, on average, 7,077 euros on it. Obviously, disparities exist. But from this amount, and assuming that it has little or no movement during the year 2024, the interest rate of 3% makes it possible to generate 218 euros over the year. In 2023, on average, 200 euros were distributed in each A booklet.
If the sum arrives well before the end of the year, it will not be credited by Christmas. In fact, it is only on the last day of December that interest is paid. This year it is Tuesday December 31st. The money will appear with the label “Net Compensation”. No need to look for it in your current account then make an internal transfer to your Livret A account, the interest is paid directly into the savings account. The same will apply to other regulated booklets, such as the youth booklet, the LDDS or the LEP.
