20-year-old professional flees his team’s home – “My life was in danger”

In League of Legends, the community is shaken by a frightening report from Japan. The 20-year-old top planner of the most famous LoL team there, DetonatioN FocusMe, has escaped from the gaming house. The situation seems tricky.

That’s the news in brief:

  • 20-year-old Haruki “tol2” Shibata wrote on Twitter yesterday that he was forced to flee DTM’s gaming home in fear for his life.
  • He was allegedly threatened by head coach Kazuta “Kazu” Suzuki after feeling “verbally abused” for some time
  • The young man says he has been diagnosed with an adjustment disorder but has nonetheless been targeted for months

Who is the young pro? tol2 is with the team in his rookie season, so has never played for a pro team before and has had to replace “Evil” since January 2023, former star player of DetonatioN FocusMe: he switched to the competition in December 2022.

DetonatioN FocusMe is in the Summer Split of the LJL 2023 with 4-0 games in first place. Nevertheless, there seem to be serious problems in the team.

Profi complained to management and was fined for it

The young man says: The 20-year-old claims he has been “verbally abused” repeatedly. That started after the spring split in 2022. Head coach Kazu and assistant coach Ceros are said to have been on the Kieker.

As an example of the things he has to endure, tol2 says: You saw a dog on the street and Coach Ceros said to the 20-year-old: “Hey, you’re a dog too, join us.”

He says he complained to management about this mistreatment, but they told him that if he told anyone he would never play in the professional league again, on any team. In addition, he was given a penalty. He says there was therefore no way he could “escape” from his perspective.

The player says he broke down in London and couldn’t stop crying and only Botlaner Milan, 22, helped him calm down. Another botlaner, 26-year-old Yutaponi, also singles out tol2 as one of his few capable supporters.

Why did he run away now? Allegedly, a big argument escalated yesterday. After that he fled and now doesn’t dare to return to the gaming house because he doesn’t know what to expect. The last post was:

“I felt my life was in danger. I want to compete in the game tomorrow but I don’t know how they will react when I return to the gaming house.”

How is the league now? There is no statement from the club yet, and the player is also currently silent.

However, the community on reddit looks at the situation with concern:

  • Many show solidarity with the player and praise the players who stand up for him: Yutaponi in particular is a great guy. The Japanese has been playing for the same team since 2013: Only Faker is similarly loyal.
  • It is said: This is an example of the “Japanese” work culture
  • A user speculates: many older people (“boomers”) might not understand this, but this is a well-known problem with coaches in general. Even in traditional sports there would be these coaches who behave so abusively
  • The often young players of a professional team in e-sports live together in so-called “gaming houses” during the season. The worst case of how a situation can end has happened in Brazil:
