20-year-old brazenly tries to outsmart Twitch and promptly receives a ban

The 20-year-old Luxembourger “LetsHugo” has become one of the most famous streamers on German Twitch. However, this does not mean he is above the law – or in this case above the rules of the streaming platform. The streamer received his first ban and is now revealing the reasons.

What kind of spell was that? On the night of October 22nd, it was announced via the automated account “StreamerBans” on X, formerly Twitter, that LetsHugo had been banned from Twitch. This was the 20-year-old’s first ban. Luckily, he had already given up his 4-year streaming streak by this point.

There was immediate speculation about possible reasons for the ban: Had LetsHugo cheated in Magenta’s Minecraft tournament? At least that’s what an apparently joking post by Twitch streamer Rumathra on X claimed, which some users seemed to believe.

There were also the cryptic statements from the streamer Stegi: The ban was justified, but it wasn’t anything bad and LetsHugo would return soon to clarify the matter (via X). In fact, the 20-year-old was unblocked after just over a day.

In a stream on October 23rd, LetsHugo reveals the reasons for what he calls “the dumbest ban in the history of Twitch.”

Streamer believes a viewer ratted him out

What did LetsHugo do? In a recent stream, LetsHugo used the website OmeTV, which allows users to video chat with randomly selected strangers. However, such services are not allowed on Twitch according to the terms of use because streamers have no control over the content that their chat partners might show.

In the past, several streamers had already received a ban because they used Omegle in the stream. LetsHugo was well aware of this because, as he reported upon his return, he had taken precautions to avoid being caught.

LetsHugo uses a banned program – if you want to cover it up, you will be banned for exactly that

This is how the streamer wanted to trick Twitch: LetsHugo explains that he deliberately only shared the section of his screen on which he and his chat partners could be seen. So you shouldn’t realize that the whole thing is taking place on OmeTV.

He also repeatedly emphasized that it was a video call via Discord.

However, the streamer suspects that a viewer ratted him out and reported him to Twitch. Those responsible would then have checked the stream and recognized what it was doing.

LetsHugo also reveals that he actually got away with a warning. However, due to his attempt at deception, he was then banned. You can see the entire explanation, including the streamer’s specially made illustrations, here:

Is the streamer insightful? At least he announced that he did not want to repeat his action. However, LetsHugo is keeping the option open of holding such streams on YouTube in the future, as the regulations there are not as strict.

It is not surprising that LetsHugo apparently wants to be good after his ban, after all, such a ban excludes full-time streamers from their important source of income. Some content creators have been complaining for a long time that bans come too suddenly and are communicated in a non-transparent manner:
