2 Million People Still Use PlayStation 3

PlayStation monthly user count reports leaked in Insomniac ransom leak. According to reports, PlayStation 3 has 1.9 million monthly active users, PlayStation 4 has 70.3 million and PlayStation 5 has 37.1 million monthly active users.

A new slide leaked from the Insomniac ransomware attack is on the agenda. This slide contains information about the monthly user numbers of PlayStation series devices. According to leaked information, PlayStation 3 still has 2 million monthly active users as of February 2023. Speaking of exact numbers, according to the documents, 1.9 million players continue to actively use PlayStation 3, which was released in 2006.

Additionally, according to other data in the leak, PlayStation 5 had 37.1 million monthly active users. This rate is quite impressive considering that the console reached the 40 million limit only in July 2023. PlayStation 4 continued its lead with 70.3 million monthly active users earlier this year. There are 107.5 million active PSN accounts when all three consoles and other non-console users are added together.

Since this slide is dated February 2023, this number must have fluctuated a lot with increasing sales in the last few months – especially on the PlayStation 5 side.

50 Million Sales from PlayStation 5

PlayStation 5, released in 2020, managed to reach a few more milestones this year, in addition to reaching 40 million sales in the summer months. Recently, Sony said in a statement that PlayStation 5 reached 50 million units sold as of December 9. In addition, the PS5 is only a week behind the PS4, which was a huge success upon its launch, in terms of overall sales.

However, in the US, the console has already surpassed other consoles that are considered its last-generation counterparts. Thanks to its constant supply, its sales continue to accelerate every week. Moreover, this year PlayStation 5 has surpassed its rivals Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S by a huge margin of 3 to 1. The Microsoft console has sold 21 million units worldwide so far.

In addition to the overwhelming success of PlayStation 5, PlayStation 3’s retention of 2 million of its 87 million sales 17 years after its launch is an impressive achievement in itself. Considering that the console hasn’t had the best start to its lifespan due to pricing policy issues, its longevity would be a big win for Sony and PlayStation.
