Yesterday there was a match for eternity in League of Legends. At the MSI 2023, the South Koreans T1 with Superstar Faker met the Chinese top team JD Gaming with the exception of -ADC Ruler. It was the spectacle everyone had hoped for. The game went over 5 games. At its peak, 2.3 million watched – a viewer record for MSI.
What was that match?
This is how the encounter went: It was an epic best of 5 battle between Korean super team T1 and Chinese JDG.
Neither team was able to pull away clearly, the game was balanced and it ultimately came down to a big decisive battle in Match 5, which JD Gaming won after 35 minutes.
The botlane duel between Gumaysui (T1) and Ruler (JDG Gaming) was seen as a decisive factor in the game. In the end Ruler prevailed overwhelmingly against Jinx with 12-1-3.
In fact, Ruler predicted the outcome of the match and said they would defeat T1 3-2 (via youtube).
JDG has assembled a fantastic team
But for JDG, midlaner “knight”, who has been waiting for his international breakthrough for years, and jungler Kanavi, who is known from the old “Team Griffin” days, also shone.
Ruler and knight both joined the team in December 2022: JD Gaming bought a pretty great team back then.
How is the game discussed? Most of the discussion on Reddit revolves around a teamfight that T1, outnumbered and lost.
The Reddit users know better from their comfortable gaming characters and say: T1 should never have entered there. Faker dropped the anchor on Nautilus – if only he had left it.
6 superstars in one game drive viewership
That was what made the match special: With 2.3 million viewers, the game broke MSI’s all-time viewership record. Never before has an MSI game had so many viewers.
At Dotesports they believe that this is due to the pure star power of the game: With Faker you have the super star with you at all. The Uber support Keria and Gumayusi are also the “stars” of the future.
JDG also had a lot to offer with Kanavi, Knight and the “best ADC ever”, Ruler.
If you’re wondering how things are going for the stars from Europe and North America: They’re already on the plane home.
LoL: Stars from Europe and USA completely disappoint – Were so weak that they were not even allowed to play against each other
