HJK struggled for a 2-1 win over FC Honga in a national football league match. The 18-year-old became the hero of the home team Oona Sevenius, who finished both goals for the people of Helsinki. The 18-year-old was also responsible for Honga’s goal Noora Juusela.
– It was really important that we returned to the winning streak. Today was by no means our best game, but we have had a bit of a problem, HJK’s caprice and as many as 200. Essi Sainio stated to Sport.
HJK lost a full point in the previous match by playing a draw against PK-35. In addition, the team lacked the most effective scorers of the season Ria Karjalainen, Leonie Pankratz and Veera Hellman.
– Compared to that, those three points are well scratched, Sainio said.
HJK was the dominant party in the match, but Honka put in good combs. However, after less than half an hour of play, the Espoo players suffered a severe setback when the team’s number one goalkeeper Emma Immonen was injured in the opening paint of HJK and was replaced Liisa Tuomeen.
However, Honka fought and made effective use of his only goal in the first half. Essi Sainio pushed the ball down during the last minute of the extra time, but the ball was caught by Noora Juusela instead of the HJK defense.
Annika Laihanen was able to block Juusela’s first bet, but the Espoo striker succeeded with his second shot when the ball bounced through the post to the goal.
Honka gained confidence in his first half goal and was able to challenge HJK better in the second half. However, HJK was able to build better finishers. The home side’s Sevenius came close to extending the lead 64 minutes into the game Daniela Toloselle traction, but it went past the goal.
With 70 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, Sevenius needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn’t succeed. Aino Nurmen between his legs and fired with his weaker or left foot the ball right at the base of the back post.
– Today we had a difficult day as a team, so it feels good to be able to take responsibility. It was a good feeling that three points were awarded and that such success was achieved, Sevenius said.
– Hopefully this will continue the paint tube now, but I’m not taking pressure from it. As long as the team wins, I’m happy.
Sevenius admitted he didn’t know where the match would go, as they both wanted to win.
– This was such a victory for us. Yes, I am proud that we were able to take home such a difficult game victory.
A clear step forward in Honga’s grip
Honga has had a tough start as the team has managed to win only one of five matches. According to Juusela, the people of Espoo did not get enough goals against HJK and the players fell asleep in different situations. According to Juusela, the team now only needs to hone small things.
– We got a good improvement on previous games. We controlled the ball more and showed that we know how to play. Now we have to get some small things forward, Juusela comments.
According to Sainio, there is still room for improvement in HJK’s game, even though it is currently second in the league. Sainio misses the ball control that takes the team forward in the game and that players are better able to identify situations that require fast progress, for example.
– In certain situations, it is also important that we are able to calm the game. They too come with experience, but there is nothing to worry about yet, Sainio assured.
In the second match of the day, PK-35 Vantaa won HPS 2–1 and continues with a clean game. The people of Vantaa rose to the top of the league with their victory, two points ahead of HJK. KuPS is third in the league, a point away from HJK, but has a less played match.
