The largest German film festival returns with a new edition! In February, the Berlinale once again brings together films from all over the world and enables many special cinema encounters. Totem by Lila AvilesFive German filmmakers made it into the 2023 Berlinale competition: Christian Petzold, Angela Schanelec, Christoph Hochhäusler, Emily Atef and Margarethe von Trotta – all of them familiar names, whose presence at the festival was to be expected. The anime contribution Suzume, on the other hand, is unexpected.
A film that you should definitely make a note of is Past Lives, which premiered a few days ago at the Sundance Film Festival and is coming to Germany as part of the Berlinale. The first reviews have already arrived showered with praise. Director debut Celine Song is the first discovery of the young cinema year.

The most important information about the Berlinale 2023
The Berlinale will take place this year from February 16th to 26th, 2023.It is the fourth edition under the direction of Carlo Chatrian (Artistic Director) and Mariette Rissenbeek (Managing Director) and the 73rd edition overall.Actress Kristen Stewart acts as jury president this year and decides with her team on the awarding of the Golden Bear.The festival will open with the romantic comedy She Came to Me by Rebecca Miller, who was a guest at the Berlinale in 2015 with Maggie’s Plan.The tribute is dedicated to Steven Spielberg. The director, whose Oscar nominee The Fabelmans can be seen at the festival along with many of his other films, receives the Honorary Golden Bear.The motto of the retrospective this time is Young at Heart – Coming of Age at the Movies. A series of different coming-of-age films selected by 30 filmmakers will be shown.As in previous years, Moviepilot will be at the Berlinale again this year and report on the festival’s exciting discoveries.
