17 arrested after the coup attempt in Bolivia

Heavily armed military gathered outside the government headquarters and an armored vehicle rammed the entrance to the presidential palace in Bolivia on Wednesday night. President Luis Arce said the country was the victim of an attempted coup.

Both civilians and military

The coup attempt failed and shortly afterwards the designated coup maker, General Juan José Zúñiga, was arrested. A total of 17 people have now been arrested. There are both former military personnel, but also civilians.

Many show their support

President Luis Arce condemns the coup attempt and many Bolivians have now gathered outside the presidential palace to show him their support.

People have also gathered outside the police station where Zúñiga is.

– What he did is a shame. We are a democracy, said one of the protesters.
