If you’re in the mood for brutal monster action and a real orgy of destruction, you should turn on the TV tonight. There you can watch the Godzilla film from 2014, which rebooted a legendary series and created a gigantic franchise at the same time.

Sci-fi action: That’s what Godzilla is all about, which is on TV today

At the end of the 1990s, Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) witnessed his wife being involved in a… Monster attack on a nuclear power plant dies. But the whole thing was covered up as a natural disaster and it doesn’t leave the man in peace. 15 years later, he enters the restricted area without authorization and is then even able to persuade his son Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) to do it again with him.

What they discover there takes their breath away: A gigantic monster grows in a cocoon and, to make matters worse, it also slips out. But that wasn’t all, because there is also a counterpart and the two huge creatures want to mate. They reduce several cities to rubble until only the king of the monsters can help – Godzilla.

In Godzilla, the nasty Mutos have to deal with Godzilla himself.

The Godzilla remake cost 160 million and started a new franchise

This version of Godzilla by Gareth Edwards represents the second attempt legendary series from Japan as a US remake to be reissued (the first was Roland Emmerich’s Godzilla from 1998). However, the two films have nothing to do with each other other than the original and the recently released Godzilla Minus One also exists completely independently of the new franchise.

However, the 2014 Godzilla was much more successful than the 1998 one. Edwards’ film not only grossed around $529 million (via: Box Office Mojo), but also founded the so-called Monsterverse.

The Monsterverse includes Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters and of course Godzilla vs Kong. Most recently we were served the Monarch series on Apple TV+ and now Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire is coming soon.
