A 16-year-old boy is charged with the murder in the Emporia shopping center in Malmö on August 19 last year. In addition to murder, he is also charged with three counts of attempted murder, aggravated weapons offense and causing danger to another.
A 31-year-old man was killed in the shooting. At the same time, a woman, who happened to be at the scene, was seriously injured when the perpetrator opened fire inside the shopping center in the middle of the Friday rush hour.
Several people are expected to be prosecuted for suspected involvement in the crime.
“The preliminary investigation against the other suspects, where seven people are in custody, is still ongoing and covered by preliminary investigation confidentiality. Prosecutions in that part are expected to be filed in the fall,” says District Attorney Michelle Stein in a press release.
The murder suspect, who was 15 at the time, was arrested just ten minutes after the shooting. According to the police’s investigation leader Hasse Persson, this was decisive.
“It cannot be emphasized enough how important the quick arrest of the suspected killer has been. The initial measures paved the way for a successful investigation,” he says in a press release from the police.
At the time of the arrest, the 15-year-old was about to take a taxi to an apartment in Malmö. There, the police set up surveillance and this led to more detentions and house searches.
