16-year-old Ellen from Älmhult has film as a summer job: “Unreal”

On Friday, it is the deadline for Filmregion Sydost’s holiday film project and the participants must present their creations to each other. Then they have had four weeks to complete their own short film from idea to final editing.

– I am so curious and full of anticipation, it will be super fun to see. The experience is that there are usually very different films, everything from action comedies to philosophical essays, says Christina Schöning who is project manager at Filmregion Sydost.

Receives SEK 5,000 to implement his idea

In this year’s edition, 25 out of 76 applicants aged 16-19 have been involved in the project, where those who participate receive SEK 5,000 and free rein to produce their own film that has a chance of being selected for the Filmregion Sydost film festival in Emmaboda in September. The young people apply with their film idea and the film region selects who gets to participate.

– The aim is to arouse an interest in film and draw more people’s attention to the fact that film can be a profession, says Christina Schöning.

Obvious to apply

For Ellen Palmberg, who is interested in film and photography, it was a matter of course to apply when she heard about the project, which began with a week of workshops before the independent work began.

– I have learned a lot. Especially the first week, when we learned to write scripts for example.

The project is financed by Filmregion Sydost, which in turn is financed by the regions of Kronoberg, Kalmar County and Blekinge, as well as with government grants via the Culture Council.
