A 16-year-old boy is charged with shooting dead a man at a gym in central Stockholm in March 2022. Three other people are also charged with involvement in the murder.

The murder victim is not believed to have been the actual target.

It was on March 28 that a 55-year-old man was shot in the head at a gym in central Stockholm. He was taken by ambulance to hospital where he later died.

On Tuesday, four people were charged with involvement in the murder.

These include a 16-year-old boy who is suspected of having committed the murder and an 18-year-old who is suspected of aiding and abetting murder. The other defendants are in their 30s. According to the prosecutor, they have promoted the murder and attempted murder in various ways.

“I have prosecuted for the murder of a visitor to the gym but also for the attempted murder of another person who was there. The investigation has not shown anything other than that the person who died was not the actual target but only intervened against the perpetrator,” says District Attorney Daniel Suneson in a press release from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The indictment is linked to two other preliminary investigations into gross destruction of public danger on March 20, 2022 in Södermalm, when a hand grenade was thrown into a restaurant. It is also connected to a case of serious weapons crime, where, among other things, the murder weapon from the gym was found in an apartment in Johanneshov.

In addition to murder, the 16-year-old is charged with attempted murder at the gym, aggravated vandalism at the restaurant on Södermalm and aggravated weapons offences.
