16 out of 20 dog shampoos failed – these are the ones you should avoid

Advice & Opinion has examined 20 dog shampoos to look for, among other things, 29 allergenic perfumes and five allergenic preservatives. They have then concluded that 16 of the 20 dog shampoos tested contain allergenic perfume substances.

Below is the full list of all tested dog shampoos. The products are graded according to sub-grades which are then added together and indicated on a 100-point scale. This is how the distribution of partial grades looks like: Allergenic perfume substances: 30 percent, allergenic preservatives: 30 percent, pH value: 30 percent, labeling: five percent and packaging: five percent.

  • Allergenious – Dog Special Shampoo, 85 points.

  • Douxo S3 – Calm, 72 points.

  • Best Friend – Clean 2in1 shampoo, 70 points.

  • Husse – Dog shampoo with coconut oil, 63 points. Contains two allergenic perfume substances: Benzyl Alcohol and Linalool.

  • Animology – Hair Of The Dog Anti-tangle Dog Shampoo, 60 points. Contains seven allergenic perfume substances: Cinnamal, Amyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Alcohol, Linalool, Citronellol, Geraniol and D/L-Limonene.

  • Sjöbogårdens – Dog Shampoo, 60 points. Contains two allergenic preservatives: 8.2 mg/kg Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT) and 3.6 mg/kg Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).

  • Vetocanis – Shampoo Aloe Vera, 60 points. Contains three allergenic perfume substances: Benzyl Alcohol, Linalool and Citronellol. It also contains two allergenic preservatives: 6.2 mg/kg Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT) and 2.2 mg/kg Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).

  • Washbar – Original Washbar soap for dogs, 55 points. Contains four allergenic perfume substances: Citral, Linalool, Citronellol and Geraniol.

  • Dogman – Fur and Fuzz Shampoo, 50 points. Contains three allergenic perfume substances: Amyl Cinnamal, Hexyl Cinnamal and Linalool. It contains two allergenic preservatives: 9.4 mg/kg Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT) and 4 mg/kg Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).

  • PCL – Vitamin and Silk shampoo, 50 points. Contains an allergenic perfume ingredient: Linalool. It contains two allergenic preservatives: 1 mg/kg Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT) and 2.4 mg/kg Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).

  • Pethead – Quick Fix 2 in 1 Shampoo Peach, 49 points. Contains four allergenic perfume substances: Hexyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Alcohol, D/L-Limonene and Coumarin.

  • WAP:3 – Fur wash, 48 points. Contains two allergenic perfume substances: Citral and D/L-Limonene.

  • K9 – Sterling Silver Shampoo, 45 points. Contains an allergenic perfume ingredient: Linalool. It contains two allergenic preservatives: 4.8 mg/kg Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT) and 2.7 mg/kg Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).

  • Trixie – Aloe vera shampoo, 42 points. Contains two allergenic perfume substances: Amyl Cinnamal, Linalool and Benzyl Salicylate.

  • M-Pets – Tea Tree oil shampoo, 41 points. Contains an allergenic perfume ingredient: D/L-Limonene. It contains two allergenic preservatives: 15.6 mg/kg Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT) and 6.1 mg/kg Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).

  • Topline – Texture shampoo, 38 points. Contains eight allergenic perfume substances: Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial), Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Citronellol, Geraniol, D/L-Limonene, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone and Benzyl Salicylate.

  • Espree – Tea tree & Aloe shampoo, 36 points. Contains an allergenic perfume ingredient: D/L-Limonene. It contains an allergenic preservative: 4.4 mg/kg Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).

  • Sthlm Dogspa – Hydrating shampoo, 16 points. Contains two allergenic perfume substances: Linalool and Geraniol. It contains two allergenic preservatives: 10.3 mg/kg Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT) and 3.3 mg/kg Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).
