Initial Geekbench scores for the M3 Max put the 16-inch MacBook Pro on par with the Mac Studio with M2 Ultra. The 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max doesn’t arrive in customers’ hands until mid-November, but someone has already started benchmarking it. Early results show that Apple’s M3 family has incredible performance. The M3 Max’s Geekbench score came in late Wednesday, hours after the standard M3 was revealed. It falls under the identifier Mac15,3, which refers to the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max.

First Geekbench scores for M3 Max arrived

M3 Max’s single core score was 2,971 and its multi-core score was 20,785. You can compare this to the M2 Ultra in Mac Studio, which got a single-core score of 2,692 and a multi-core score of 21,231. M3 scored 3,030 in single-core and 11,694 in multi-core.

Benchmarking tools like Geekbench provide scores that serve as a simple reference point for comparing performance metrics. Scores fluctuate slightly between runs and across different hardware depending on environment, temperature, battery life, background tasks, and more. Geekbench also can’t handle certain hardware systems like the Media Engine, hardware ray tracing support, dynamic caching, or accelerated network mapping. Extensive real-world testing will reveal more information about the M3 Max’s performance once it reaches customers’ hands. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max starts at $3,199, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max starts at $3,499. Shipping estimates show November 13 or later.
