1500 people hosted for the night after a landslide that

The landslide that occurred on Saturday morning on the RN90 blocked hundreds of motorists. Some even had to spend the night in emergency accommodation.

Three stones, for a total of 50 m³, fell on the RN90, Saturday, February 1 in the morning. No victim is to be deplored, although a motorist was slightly injured. This landslide completely blocked traffic in the direction of the climb, leading to the ski resorts of the 3 valleys, Tignes, Val d’Isère, La Plagne, the Arcs and the Rosière. Traffic was restored in the early afternoon via a tunnel usually reserved for the descent. But that was not enough to release the traffic enough and several kilometers of traffic jams were recorded. In order not to spend the night in their car, motorists had to go to emergency accommodation made available by the Prefecture of Savoy. Gymnasiums were made available and around 1,500 people were able to benefit from it, according to the prefecture, Sunday morning.

Regardless of the solution chosen by motorists, the night was tough. Some have decided to stay in their car to try to advance as much as possible. Those who spent the night in emergency accommodation have hit the road this morning. According to the Prefect of Savoy at Bfmtv“traffic has taken up” on the RN90 and “the fluidity will come back gradually”.

Securing work

We must now think about securing the road. According to the prefect, “the protective nets have proven to be insufficient” to protect the road and motorists, then “work will be carried out this afternoon”, from February 2. Purges will be made, that is to say, drop rocks which are unstable so that they do not fall alone while the traffic is open. But time is running out with the arrival of holidaymakers in zone B, whose holidays start on Friday. Chantal Martin, the mayor of Moûtiers, a commune close to the place of the landslide, assured our colleagues on Sunday that she doubted that the problem was resolved before the school holidays. “This fall has been substantial on a slope which is already in the process of security. Obviously, it is the safety of motorists that is privileged,” she insists.
