At least 15 films, series and animated adaptations of popular video games are currently planned for the Netflix streaming platform. We at MeinMMO give you an overview of which of your favorite games you could soon watch as a series or film on Netflix.
Netflix already proved in 2022 that film adaptations of video games don’t always have to be a disaster. From the LoL spinoff Arcane, to the dystopian anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, to the nostalgia-look crazy Cuphead show, the streaming platform has developed into a promising port of call for gaming adaptations.
While the competition from HBO Max with The Last of Us and Amazon with Fallout is slowly waking up, Netflix is already in the middle of preparing for 15 other projects that we present to you here.
Assassin’s Creed
What is known about the adaptation? In 2020, publisher Ubisoft announced a series adaptation in cooperation with Netflix. It is said to be an “epic, cross-genre” live-action film adaptation.
More Assasin’s Creed content is said to be in the works. Among other things, a mobile game was announced at the “Ubisoft Forward” showcase in September, which is also to be created in cooperation with Netflix. An animated series is also planned.
Beyond Good & Evil
What is known about the adaptation? The adaptation is said to be a mix of live action and animation. Exactly how that will look is not yet known, but a concept trailer hinted that actors could be transferred into the animated world via motion capture.
Responsible for the adaptation is Rob Letterman, who already skilfully merged reality and CG in Detective Pikachu (via What’s on Netflix).
BioShock
What is known about the adaptation? In February 2022, Netflix announced that it had reached an agreement with BioShock publisher 2K Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive. A live-action adaptation of the series is to be developed under the direction of Vertigo Entertainment.
Vertigo Entertainment is also behind films like the Lego Movie and the anime adaptation Death Note. First of all, it should probably be a movie, although there are also rumors about a series.
Castlevania: Nocturne
What is known about the adaptation? Unlike other entries on this list, Castlevania already has a Netflix adaptation. The anime-themed animated series followed Trevor Belmont, the protagonist of the fourth entry in the Castlevania series.
In June 2022, Castlevania: Nocturne, the successor to the hit series, was announced. The storyline is set to follow Judge Belmont, the descendant of Trevor and Sypha from the first series. He may be familiar to fans from the games Rondo of Blood and Symphony of Night.
Kevin Kolde, who was also involved in the first series, takes over as showrunner.
Devil May Cry
What is known about the adaptation? Adi Shankar, the Executive Producer of the Castlevania series on Netflix, announced in 2018 that he had acquired the rights to a Devil May Cry animated series. The script for the first season should already be finished and will consist of 8 episodes.
Production is set to begin in early 2022, but no date has yet been set for the broadcast.
Dragon Age: Absolution
What is known about the adaptation? The animated adaptation of BioWare’s RPG classic is slated to hit Netflix on December 9th. The story of the young elf Miriam, who is supposed to steal a valuable artifact, is told in six episodes of 30 minutes each.
The list of well-known actors and actresses who will lend their voices to the characters provides additional hype. Among other things, well-known voices from Futurama, Avatar and World of Warcraft should be heard.

Dragon’s Lair
What is known about the adaptation? In spring 2020, the live-action adaptation of the retro game Dragon’s Lair was announced. Ryan Reynolds has been named as the producer and star of the series.
When asked about the project, Reynolds told Collider on Nov. 8 that the adaptation will likely come as a big surprise to many people. The actor said he wasn’t sure anything on this scale had ever been attempted before.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
What is known about the adaptation? In addition to his work on Devil May Cry, Adi Shankar is also developing an animated series based on Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. The series will be titled Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.
The hero of the series is said to be the cybernetic super-soldier Dolph Laserhawk. What is special about the project is that Shankar says he should have complete freedom to remix publisher Ubisoft’s IP.
Gears of War
What is known about the adaptation? Netflix has secured the rights to two Gears of War adaptations. The 3rd person shooter is set to hit screens as a feature film and cartoon for adults. On November 7, Netflix confirmed that both projects were in the works.
Netflix will be working with Gears of War developer The Coalition, but no filmmakers, directors, writers or cast have been signed as of yet. But there should be the potential for more stories that could follow.
Horizon Zero Dawn
What is known about the adaptation? Netflix confirmed the live-action adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn after Sony Pictures revealed the project in an investor briefing back in May 2022. Steve Blackman from The Umbrella Academy will be on board as showrunner.
As in the games, the main character will be the warrior Aloy, Blackman explained in August.
Pokemon
What is known about the adaptation? After countless seasons and films of the anime as well as the live-action hit “Detective Pikachu”, there should now also be a live-action series based on Pokémon.
Joe Henderson will serve as executive writer and executive producer on the project. Work on the series has reportedly been underway since July 2021, but more is not yet known. Neither Netflix nor The Pokémon Company have officially confirmed the project.
Sonic Prime
What is known about the adaptation? The new cartoon series with the blue hedgehog is scheduled to start on Netflix on December 15th. In addition to Sonic himself, there are also other well-known faces such as Tails, Knuckels, Shadow and of course Eggman.
However, the voices of some key roles are said to be new, including Deven Christian Mack as Sonic, Ashleigh Ball as Tails and Brian Drummond as Eggman. There will be 24 episodes in total.
Tom Clancy’s The Division
What is known about the adaptation? First announced as a theatrical film in 2016, Ubisoft told fans in 2019 that the project was going to Netflix. However, Jake Gyllenhaal, who was previously committed, should still be there as a producer and leading actor.
Director Rawson Marshall Thurber said filming “could start sometime as late as 2022 with any luck.
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell
What is known about the adaptation? Ubisoft’s fifth collaboration with Netflix is an animated adaptation of the popular stealth/action video game series, Splinter Cell. Derek Kolstad, the co-creator of the “John Wick” franchise, is involved in the project.
Variety reported in 2020 that Netflix had landed a 16-episode deal over two seasons, which Ubisoft later confirmed to Polygon. In 2021, Netflix presented fans with some key images for the series.
Tomb Raider
What is known about the adaptation? The animated adaptation of Tomb Raider was announced by Netflix in early 2021, but has no release date or timeline as of yet.
