Cavan Sullivan became the youngest player to play in a major North American sports league when he took the field for MLS team Philadelphia Union.

Cavan Sullivan age 14 years and 293 days made his debut in the MLS football series early Thursday morning Finnish time.

Sullivan became the youngest player ever to receive playing time in the major North American sports leagues (MLS, MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, NWSL).

The 14-year-old midfielder was replaced on the field for the last six minutes of the match.

Philadelphia, represented by Sullivan, beat the New England Revolution in the match with 5–1 goals.

Before Sullivan, the previous youngest player to step onto an MLS field was Freddy Adu. He made his MLS debut at the age of 14 years and 306 days in 2004. The now 35-year-old Adu also played in Finland and Kuopio Palloseura in 2015.

Sullivan is expected to join Manchester City when he turns 18.
