On September 16, 2023, 14-year-old Ellie Junetoft, born in 2009 (!) made her A-team debut for Hammarby away to Kalmar in the women’s league.
But now it is clear that the great talent Ellie Junetoft is leaving Hammarby for Malmö FF, who will play in Elitettan in the 2024 season.
– I felt that Malmö could give me the best conditions to be the best. I know I can develop more in Malmö, she tells SVT Sport.
It is a Malmö that, since the restart of the women’s team in 2020, has walked straight through the series system undefeated, from division 4 up to Elitettan. Something that Junetoft considered when she chose to change clubs.
– It is a very big part of why I go to Malmö. The club has a flow right now, it feels stable and safe to come to a club that you know is investing.
Malmö is betting big
Assistant sports director Maxim Khalil, explains why they choose to bet on Ellie Junetoft.
– She is very mature for her age, and with the investment we are making with both the women’s team and our entire girls’ operation, we have very high ambitions, and Ellie with her mentality and her football practice fits in perfectly, he tells SVT Sport.
You are only 14 years old, now you are going to move 60 miles south, how will it feel?
– It will be exciting, I’m nervous, but you have to test to see if it works. The family is sad but it is my choice and they support me in everything, says Junetoft.
“Best in the world”
And the 14-year-old from Tyresö has big dreams. In ten years she will be the best in the world – if she herself is allowed to dream.
– In ten years I will be in one of the top clubs abroad and have won the Ballon d’Or. I want to be the best in the world.
