Since 2011, the water boards have been responsible for combating the muskrat. The De Stichtse Rijnlanden Water Board (HDSR), which is active in the southern part of the province of Utrecht, caught 3,432 muskrats last year. In 2023 there were still 2,806. The Amstel, Gooi and Vecht water board also caught significantly more animals last year: 9,936 compared to 5,390 in 2023.
