The Chronicles of Narnia series is one of the most popular fantasy classics in literary history and has been adapted several times for film and TV. Before Barbie director Greta Gerwig puts her own stamp on the fantastic stories for Netflix and possibly for the next generation the will provide a formative film adaptation of the material, many Millennials hold a special place in their hearts for the films of the 2000s. However, even the biggest Narnia fan can no longer fully answer one question: What is it? became the actors of the Pevensie siblings?
While Edmund actor Skandar Keynes turned away from acting to become a politician after the Narnia series, his screen siblings have remained loyal to the industry. Susan actress Anna Popplewell was even seen in a big horror blockbuster a few years ago and had the lead role in a popular series.
Susan actress Anna Popplewell became a series star after Narnia
Unlike her on-screen brother Keynes, the London-born woman had already held several major roles before the Narnia series. She starred in the 2000 fantasy classic The Little Vampire and appeared alongside Scarlett Johansson in The Girl with a Pearl Earring in 2003. However, her first leading role was Susan Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia – The King of Narnia, which she also performed in the subsequent sequels Prince Caspian of Narnia and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
When the first Narnia film was filmed, Popplewell was just 16 years old. She embodied the second eldest of the Pevensie siblings, who with adult reason acts as protectors for the younger ones together with her brother Peter (William Moseley). Equipped with bow and arrow She was the Katniss Everdeen of Narnia, who later found her Peeta in Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes) before she tragically (and for many fans to this day inexplicably) had to leave him behind in the magical land.
The three Narnia films grossed over $1.5 billion in theaters worldwide and paved the way for Popplewell to continue his successful career. In the years that followed, the actress lived this out, especially in series. In the miniseries Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn she played the role of Chyler Silva for five episodes before appearing in the The CW historical series Reign co-stars got hold of. From 2013 to 2016 she played Lady Lola Narcisse, a friend of the Queen of Scotland, and appeared in three seasons. In this country the series ran on Sixx.
After Narnia, Anna Popplewell landed a blockbuster in horror cinema
After her series role in Reign, Popplewell devoted herself to various smaller projects and worked, among other things, as a narrator for audio books such as Jane Eyre or her grandfather Oliver Popplewell’s novel, The Prime Minister and His Mistress. This also included a live-action game with interactive film features called The Gallery, which featured her in multiple roles.
Two years ago she made a surprise return to the big screen and explored a genre that the Brit had previously ignored. So she played the role of the boarding school teacher and mother Kate in horror hit The Nun IIwhich grossed around $270 million (on a budget of $38 million) and brought her back to the public for a short time.
That same year, she made her theater debut in a queer adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Norwegian play Hedda Gabler, which was performed at the Rep Theater in Reading and received mixed reviews (via The Times).
Since then, little is known about Anna Popplewell’s life. However, as the actress has taught us throughout her varied career, she is always good for a surprise and suddenly appears in little-expected parts of the entertainment industry. So one thing should be certain: we won’t have seen the last of the former Narnia star yet.
