The 2023 Ice Hockey World Cup has been allocated to Finland and Latvia. The second group will be played in Tampere and the second in Riga.
Around 120,000 tickets have been sold so far for next year’s World Hockey Championships in Tampere. The amount is roughly the same as last year.
Secretary General of the World Cup Heikki Hietanen says that tickets have sold well, but there are still tickets available for all games.
– Some hundreds, some thousands. And even more tickets are coming up for sale.
The arena was opened to the public a year ago in December. This year’s WC tickets had to be left in reserve, as the final number of seats is not yet known exactly. Somewhat more tickets are available for this year’s games, because now the number of places is known exactly.
The cheapest tickets are tens of euros, the most expensive hundreds
The prices of tickets for next year’s games have been reduced somewhat.
According to Heikki Hietanen, the aim of lowering the prices is to ensure that as many people as possible can watch the games. The fact that Tampere will host the World Championships for the second time in a row next spring and newcomers are coming to the games will also have an impact.
– We have priced tickets according to the interest of the games. For example, the appeal of Hungarian games is not the same as, for example, in the USA or Sweden.
This year, the service fees of the operators of the ticketing services have also been added to the tickets, so they are also slightly cheaper in that sense.
As usual, tickets are available in different price categories. According to Hietanen, you can get a day ticket at the cheapest price of 35 euros. The prices of the final games vary, but according to the general secretary’s estimate, the prices start at 300 euros and up.
At the moment, only day packages are on sale for the World Cup. Match-specific tickets go on sale on the first day of February.
Next year’s games have been divided between Finland and Latvia. The second group will be played in Tampere and the second in Riga. In addition to the first group, medal games, semi-finals and two quarter-finals will be played in Tampere. The second group and two quarterfinals will be played in Riga.
Finland and Latvia jointly applied to host the games when a new organizer was urgently needed for next spring’s games. The International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF pulled the games out of Russia after Russia invaded Ukraine.
The spring 2023 WC tournament starts on May 12. The World Cup final will be played on May 28.
